Overview of the ATA Government Linguist Outreach Task Force

Description: In this presentation, Rusty Shughart, Chair of the American Translators Association’s (ATA) Government Linguist Outreach Task Force (GLOTF), will provide an overview of the ATA Government Division and its outreach initiatives to the Defense Language Community (DLC). In early 2019, the ATA Board of Directors approved the creation of the GLOTF, which is now pursuing a three-year plan to improve ATA’s relationship with the members of the DLC. The presenter will provide details on the three-year plan as well as characterize the results of the GLOTF thus far.


Presenter Bio: Rusty Shughart is a graduate of Chinese language programs at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC), the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is an experienced military linguist, and he has served as the Director of Foreign Language Education and Training Programs for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
